At Imagine Surf School, our advanced surf lessons are designed for surfers who are already autonomous in the water and want to refine their technique, performance and understanding of the ocean.
This level is ideal if you can paddle out independently, catch waves with confidence and already perform basic maneuvers, but want more technical feedback to keep improving.
Located at Praia do Pego, in Comporta, we offer advanced surf coaching with certified instructors, personalized guidance and a strong focus on performance, technique and wave analysis.

Advanced surf lessons are for surfers who already feel confident in the ocean and are ready for more technical, performance-focused coaching.
This level may be right for you if you:
- Are autonomous in the water;
- Can paddle out without assistance;
- Can catch green waves independently;
- Can ride along the wave face with control;
- Already perform or attempt basic maneuvers;
- Feel comfortable in different sea conditions.
If you still need help with timing, positioning or basic turns, our Intermediate Surf Lessons may be the best option before moving to advanced coaching.
What You Improve in an Advanced Surf Lesson
Once you are at an advanced level, progression comes from improving the small details that influence each wave.
In these lessons, our instructors help you understand what is working, what can be corrected and how to surf with more precision, control and flow.
Depending on your goals and the ocean conditions, we may work on:
- Correcting posture, stance and balance;
- Improving body rotations and weight distribution;
- Choosing better waves and improving your positioning;
- Generating speed and maintaining flow;
- Improving maneuvers such as bottom turns, top turns and cutbacks;
- Connecting maneuvers with more control and intention;
- Reading the ocean and waves with more confidence;
- Understanding what to adjust after each wave.
The goal is to help you become more aware of your surfing, so you can make better decisions in the water and keep progressing after the lesson.
How Advanced Surf Lessons Work
Our advanced surf lessons are around 2 hours long, broken down as follows:
- First 30 minutes: getting ready, putting on wetsuits, warming up, checking the conditions and defining the technical focus of the session;
- Next 1h15 minutes: time spent in the water, where you’ll be catching waves, refining your technique and receiving feedback from your instructor.
You’re free to take breaks whenever you need. The focus is on improving performance, correcting details and helping you surf with more control and awareness.
Most lessons take place at Praia do Pego, where Imagine Surf School is based.
Private Lessons, Small Group or Surf CourseWhat’s Best for You?
Advanced surfers can choose between private lessons, small group lessons or a surf course, depending on their goals, experience and how much technical feedback they want.
Private Advanced Surf Lessons
Private lessons are usually the best option for advanced surfers who want more detailed feedback and faster technical progression.
Your instructor can focus on your specific goals, such as posture, timing, body rotations, maneuver improvement, speed generation or reading the wave more effectively.
Small Group Advanced Lessons
Small group lessons can be a good option when the group level and ocean conditions are appropriate.
They allow you to keep improving while sharing the session with other surfers, always with guidance adapted to the level of the group.
Advanced Surf Course
If you want consistent progression, we recommend booking a 3, 5 or 10 lesson surf course.
Through several sessions, you can work on specific technical goals, correct habits and develop your surfing with a clearer progression path.
How much are advanced surf lessons?
Group advanced surf lessons cost €50 per person. If you want to progress faster, you can book one of our surf lesson packs or choose a private lesson for more personalized feedback.

Can I bring my own surfboard?
Yes. If you already have your own surfboard and feel comfortable using it, you can bring it to your advanced surf lesson. If needed, we can also provide a surfboard suitable for your level.
How long does an advanced surf lesson last?
Our lessons are around 2 hours long. This includes getting ready, warming up, checking the conditions and time in the water.
What should I bring?
Please bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and water. You can also bring your own surfboard if you prefer (or you can use one of ours).
Where do the surf lessons take place?
Most lessons take place at Praia do Pego, in Comporta, where Imagine Surf School is based (map here). Depending on ocean and swell conditions, lessons may also take place at nearby beaches to ensure the best and safest experience.
What happens if the weather or ocean conditions are not good?
If conditions are not safe, the lesson will be rescheduled or fully refunded.
